olivia broke her arm (and my heart.)

sleepy liv

hands
i wrote this short poem the day after.

you were

born a jumble of limbs unsteady for life outside a tightly swaddled blanket
my second precious cocoon with the bright red face and cheeks so grand hardly a nose between them.
standing over you in the bath today, we, the people who made you, cringing to lift and clean your broken wing,
remembering yesterday you were perfect.

our darling olivia, our sweet baby only one year and a half,
your little body tightly swaddled in our love and worry
cocooned in the reach of our broken hearts,

you carry your cast without burden and no fewer smiles.

What a sweetheart, and yes, my heart would have been broken too had it been my lil' boy! It's hard to see your kids suffer and hurt. (That's why I hate taking him to shots!) BTW, you are such a great photographer! Teach me!
